Deck construction in Gatineau

Building a deck is mostly about deciding how you want to use your yard. Everything else — dimensions, materials, structure — follows from that answer.

Is this the right service for you?

This service is for you if there is no deck today, or if the existing one has to come down because its structure, height or shape no longer works.

If your structure is still sound and you mainly want to change the look, renovation is usually the better value.

What is covered

  • Measurements, review of the lot and site access
  • Footings and anchoring suited to the height and soil
  • Framing: beams, joists, posts
  • Decking in pressure-treated wood, cedar or composite
  • Stairs, railings and perimeter finishes
  • Site cleanup at the end of the work

Materials and sequence

We start with the decking, because it is what you see and touch: pressure-treated for budget, cedar for natural wood, composite to cut yearly upkeep. That choice then drives joist spacing and fastener type.

Then comes the structure: height above grade, spans, number of posts and footing type depending on the soil. Stairs and railings are decided around the real traffic between house, yard and driveway.

Once the plan is settled, the site follows a simple order: footings, framing, decking, finishes.

What moves the price

We do not publish a per-square-foot price: at the same area, two decks can cost very differently depending on height, footings and materials. The quote itemises everything so you can adjust.

  • Area and shape (angles and levels cost more than rectangles)
  • Height above grade and the footing type it requires
  • Decking material and railing type
  • Number and width of stairs
  • Site access and ground preparation
  • Demolition and disposal of an existing structure, if any

Permits

Municipal requirements vary with the project and the lot. To find out what applies to you, check with the City of Gatineau.
